A Naturalist position at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman focusing on managing and leading environmental education and recreational activities, including snorkeling, kayaking, botanic park tours, sustainable living lessons, arts & crafts, and more. The role includes preparation for activities, guiding tours, curriculum development, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols and operational standards. Candidates must have qualifications in environmental sciences and certifications related to safety and water activities.
Job Responsibility:
Lead programs for kids, youth, adults, families, and group activities, such as snorkeling, kayaking, underwater photography and videography, botanic park (terrestrial) tours, sustainable living lessons, arts & crafts
explain and promote the rules and regulations of the recreation facility
observe activity in the recreational facility and respond appropriately in accordance with local procedures in emergencies
demonstrate knowledge of local and cultural heritage
prepare for each activity, ensuring co-naturalist or attendant readiness with necessary materials
guide tours while conveying scientific information at the appropriate level
ensure operation and curriculum development of Ambassadors of the Environment program
ensure preparedness of program
participate in the creation of new activities as needed
follow company policies and procedures
report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions
develop and maintain positive working relationships
ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.
Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Environmental and Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Science Education, or similar program major
working knowledge and experience in coral reef ecology or environmental education preferred
excellent verbal and written skills in English
experience working with children ages 4 to 18
a dedication to working with children and educating the next generation about the environment with an appreciation for Cayman's culture & environment
must be a strong swimmer and snorkeler, preferably with CPR/first aid and lifeguard skills
experience leading recreational tours and supervising groups in a variety of environmental conditions
strong team player
able to energize the Ritz-Carlton culture and mission of Ambassadors of the Environment
ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
lifeguard certification
water safety certification
CPR certification
oxygen certification
epi-pen certification
first aid certification
food safety certification
clean drivers abstract
any certification or training required by local and state agencies.
