Job Description:

MRI Technologist I position within the Weekend Program at Aurora Medical Center Burlington. The role involves operating MR equipment, patient care, safety compliance, and record-keeping in a hospital setting.

Job Responsibility:

  • Competently operates magnetic resonance (MR) equipment used to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures
  • Obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician's orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy, and prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist
  • Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images, and provides magnet protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies
  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images
  • Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served

Requirements:

  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the ARRT needs to be obtained within 2 years, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology
  • Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and magnetic safety
  • Competent in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
  • perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
  • Must have clear speech, vision and hearing
