The Microbiology Laboratory Technician II performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests and read, interpret, and release results.
Job Responsibility:
Ensure you meet minimum production benchmarks
Work up recheck and add on requests
Accurately read and report all Kirby Bauer disc diffusion sensitivity results as needed
Accurately read and result Blood Cultures and Gram stains (If Applicable)
Perform all required quality control such as recording temperatures, marking reagents, and all supplies with applicable dates and initials.
Print, reconcile, and turn in daily pending report
Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results
Check pending/manifest daily
Sets up and runs laboratory tests
Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed
May be cross trained to perform other duties, such as performing fewer complex tests. Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
Consult with senior peers on non-complex Microbiology tasks to learn through experience.

Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent, 2 or 4-year degree in science-related field preferred
6 months experience as a Microbiology Technician I
Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments
Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures
Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Microbiology procedures and equipment
General science background
Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
The ability to communicate information so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Positive, can-do attitude
Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office
