We are looking for a detail-oriented Medical Records Clerk to join our team in Pontiac, Michigan. In this contract role, you will be responsible for managing patient health information, ensuring accurate documentation, and facilitating record requests while maintaining strict confidentiality. Your expertise in electronic health record systems and adherence to privacy regulations will play a vital role in supporting clinical and quality teams.
Job Responsibility:
Utilize the e-Fax system to review and retrieve patient documents, test results, and consultation notes for proper storage in electronic health records
Accurately match received documents to corresponding patient records, verifying identifiers to ensure precision in record-keeping
Assign and oversee tasks for the Medical Records Assistant, ensuring timely and accurate completion of responsibilities
Generate tasks for clinicians and care team members based on the patient information received and stored in the electronic health record system
Ensure referral documents, consultation notes, and test results are correctly linked to open referrals or diagnostic studies
Coordinate and process patient medical record requests, verifying authorization and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations
Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold organizational policies regarding the handling of sensitive health information
Support informatics, clinical, and quality teams by extracting health data, auditing compliance, and assisting with various projects
Participate in team activities related to patient care, quality improvement, and organizational initiatives
Perform additional duties as assigned, including emergency response tasks during public health events
Requirements:
Proficiency with electronic health record systems such as NextGen, Epic, Cerner, or similar platforms
Strong understanding of laws and regulations governing medical records, including privacy guidelines
Experience with handling patient health information and ensuring confidentiality
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with exceptional organizational skills
Familiarity with auditing, billing, and claims administration processes
Effective communication skills for interacting with clinicians, staff, and patients
Knowledge of tools like charts, graphs, and reporting systems to support data extraction and analysis
Prior experience in medical records management or a related field is preferred
