Job Description:

The Design Engineer is responsible for the creation of component/assembly designs and associated through life justification that meet their requirements and product attributes, ie life, cost availability and safety margins.

Job Responsibility:

  • To understand Product system / sub-system requirements and derive Component requirements at task level
  • To produce robust design solutions which are insensitive to variation to address specified requirements
  • To collaborate and communicate design solution information with task stakeholders
  • To search for, capture, store, and re-use knowledge relating to design activity
  • To understand and apply the commodity standards and to create new standards where none exist
  • To liaise with manufacturing and service engineering to actively integrate the experience and knowledge from these areas
  • To check own and others design a solutions and technical for completeness and correctness

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s or PhD in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience
  • Technical experience relevant to the engineering discipline
  • An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems
  • Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and justification
  • Membership of a relevant professional body or working towards
  • Experience as design engineer operating across the product life cycle, undertaking design safety justification activites supporting manufacturing, integration, maintenance /refit activities and dealing with operational issues
  • Experience of Research and development, analytical and test verification activities
  • Experience in the development of methods, standards and processes
  • Many roles require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK
