The Design Engineer is responsible for the creation of component/assembly designs and associated through life justification that meet their requirements and product attributes, ie life, cost availability and safety margins.
Job Responsibility:
To understand Product system / sub-system requirements and derive Component requirements at task level
To produce robust design solutions which are insensitive to variation to address specified requirements
To collaborate and communicate design solution information with task stakeholders
To search for, capture, store, and re-use knowledge relating to design activity
To understand and apply the commodity standards and to create new standards where none exist
To liaise with manufacturing and service engineering to actively integrate the experience and knowledge from these areas
To check own and others design a solutions and technical for completeness and correctness
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s or PhD in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience
Technical experience relevant to the engineering discipline
An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems
Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and justification
Membership of a relevant professional body or working towards
Experience as design engineer operating across the product life cycle, undertaking design safety justification activites supporting manufacturing, integration, maintenance /refit activities and dealing with operational issues
Experience of Research and development, analytical and test verification activities
Experience in the development of methods, standards and processes
Many roles require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK
