Join STR’s Video & Image Understanding (VIU) Group as a summer intern to develop and apply deep learning or reinforcement learning techniques to solve challenging problems in computer vision, situational awareness and autonomous control. We tackle problems that have not been previously addressed by academic and industry research communities. The VIU Group is part of STR’s Intelligence Division, which develops and applies state-of-the-art information processing techniques to produce robust, scalable solutions for intelligence analysts and military decision makers. STR staff drive our success with their hard work, talent, and ingenuity. Join us this summer and help develop meaningful solutions to challenging, real-world problems which enhance our nation’s security.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work as part of a project team with focused mentorship from experienced staff
  • Adapt, extend and optimize innovative machine learning algorithms for solving challenging computer vision or autonomy problems
  • Collaborate with STR research engineers as well as academic researchers to develop practical and powerful machine learning and computer vision solutions
  • Evaluate and optimize machine learning performance on relevant and practical data sets

Requirements:

  • Enrollment in an MS or PhD degree program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related technical discipline
  • Successful track record of applying machine learning algorithms, such as deep learning or reinforcement learning, to computer vision or autonomy problems
  • Strong academic record and interest in research
  • Experience in scientific software development, particularly with Python
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is needed by U.S. Government
