Job Responsibility:

  • Provide excellent customer service in a team-based environment
  • work a flexible schedule including afternoon, night and weekend shifts
  • respond to general inquiries and refer patrons to appropriate staff or resources
  • perform circulation duties including registering new patrons, checking items in and out, collecting fines, and managing patron accounts
  • sort and shelve books, publications, and other materials
  • assist patrons with online catalog usage and access to digital materials
  • assist with the operation of office equipment such as fax, copier, and computer
  • prepare and maintain creative book displays
  • assist with programming and outreach activities
  • perform opening and closing duties including securing the building
  • balance cash drawer and prepare daily deposits
  • maintain a clean and welcoming environment
  • assist co-workers with various duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • no experience required but some work or volunteer experience in a library or customer service preferred
  • possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license
  • knowledge of basic computer use and common software applications
  • ability to provide quality customer service
  • ability to plan and organize daily assignments
  • ability to use independent judgment
  • ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • physical ability to perform light to moderate lifting and other physical tasks
  • ability to work at various library locations including the main and branch libraries
  • customer service experience preferred
  • familiarity with mobile devices
  • understanding of public library operations including circulation and reference services
  • ability to comprehend and apply regulations and procedures
  • ability to plan and implement creative programming
  • ability to operate and maintain office equipment
