The Lead Director of Software Engineering is responsible for leading engineering teams that support the development, maintenance, and modernization of legacy systems—primarily IBM Mainframe platforms—used for commercial claims routing, adjudication, and operational reporting. This role ensures the reliability, scalability, and compliance of claims platforms, while partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver strategic outcomes aligned with enterprise goals.
Job Responsibility:
Lead engineering teams supporting development, maintenance, and modernization of legacy systems
Own engineering strategy and execution for commercial claims systems
Ensure reliability, scalability, and compliance of claims platforms
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver strategic outcomes
Drive modernization initiatives such as API enablement and data extraction
Promote engineering excellence through structured change management and automation
Manage vendor relationships and ensure seamless integration with external systems
Requirements:
10+ years of experience in software engineering
5+ years in leadership roles
Experience with legacy platforms supporting high-volume, business-critical workflows
IBM Mainframe experience is a strong plus
Proven experience managing large-scale adjudication systems
Proven experience leading modernization efforts
Strong understanding of regulatory compliance in claims processing
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
Advanced degree preferred
Nice to have:
Familiarity with enterprise reporting platforms and data warehousing
Experience with Agile methodologies adapted for legacy environments
Leadership in matrixed organizations and cross-functional team management
