Job Description:

Provides support to mother/infant dyads with breastfeeding needs and lactation problems in a manner developmentally appropriate for adolescents and adults as necessary; Accountable for evaluation of continuous quality improvement, and compliance with hospital policy and procedure.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provides support to mother/infant dyads with breastfeeding needs and lactation problems
  • Instructs mothers on all tasks necessary to initiate and maintain lactation
  • Evaluates breastfeeding oral motor mechanics of infants and milk transfer
  • Documents observations, assessments and recommendations
  • Performs tasks to ensure mother’s adherence to quality control departmental policies related to milk collection, storage and transport
  • Obtains information on maternal medication use and evaluates its compatibility
  • Attends continuing education
  • Attends staff meetings
  • Participates in Hospital Performance Improvement activities

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree, Nursing
  • Two years lactation experience
  • Registered Nurse
  • Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • BLS, NRP
