Job Description:

Kitchen Assistant – Mac’s Place Deli (The Barack Obama Plaza). About the Role: As a Kitchen Assistant, you will support the daily operations of the deli kitchen by helping prepare ingredients, assembling food items, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring smooth service alongside our chefs and service team. This role is not a Kitchen Porter position — while some cleaning is involved, the focus is on assisting with food preparation and deli operations. "This is a full-time position, and candidates must be flexible to work any day from Monday to Sunday, including after the summer ends."

Job Responsibility:

Assist with the preparation of fresh ingredients for sandwiches, hot meals, salads, and deli items
Assemble food orders accurately and efficiently according to service standards
Ensure food displays are clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing
Follow food safety and hygiene guidelines at all times
Help with restocking supplies and rotating stock (FIFO)
Support chefs and supervisors with basic prep and kitchen tasks
Maintain the cleanliness of your workstation and food prep areas
Communicate effectively with team members and front-of-house staff
Follow opening and closing procedures as required

Requirements:

Minimum 1 year of experience in a deli, café, or food prep role required
Food preparation skills
Good understanding of hygiene and food safety practices
Ability to work in a busy environment as part of a team
Flexibility to work weekdays and weekends as scheduled
Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic
Fluent English for following instructions and communicating with the team
