We are looking for a dedicated Housing Solutions Advisor to join the team in Bridgend. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive assessments and advice to those approaching the Council regarding housing support. Your primary goal is to prevent homelessness, maximize housing choices, and ensure statutory duties are met under the Housing and Homelessness Acts. Flexibility Required: This role requires participation in office/telephone rotas, emergency out-of-hours advice, and visits to homes, hospitals, or prisons.
Job Responsibility:
Assessment & Casework: conducting detailed interviews to assess housing, social, and medical needs in line with the Social Housing Allocations Scheme
Complex Case Management: Investigating applications from diverse client groups, including ex-offenders, young people, and those with mental health or substance misuse issues
Homelessness Prevention: proactively negotiating with private landlords, letting agents, and other parties to resolve housing issues and keep people in their homes
Accommodation Procurement: Assisting customers in securing private or public sector housing, including temporary accommodation when necessary
Outreach: Visiting applicants in homes or hospitals and participating in the prison rota to prevent homelessness upon release
Advice & Records: Providing guidance on benefits, tenancy rights, and money management while maintaining accurate digital records
Requirements:
Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is Essential
Recent experience in conducting complex housing investigations, interviews, and casework management
Detailed knowledge of the Housing and Homelessness Acts, case law, and the code of guidance
Educated to A-level standard (or similar) and holding/working towards a relevant professional qualification (e.g., CIH)
Strong negotiation skills, IT literacy, and the ability to explain complex legislation simply
Ability to travel for field work (home/prison visits)
