Job Description:

To produce complex Hardware Application designs/Bookwirings and equipment designs that meet requirements utilizing processes based on established engineering and railway signaling principles.

Job Responsibility:

  • TECHNICAL: Demonstrates a high degree of initiative, and resourcefulness in solving problems
  • Good understanding of SelTrac Signal Plans and SelTrac Radio equipment
  • Good knowledge of Railway infrastructure and deployment of trackside and equipment room assets within greenfield and brownfield deployments
  • Demonstrates an advanced level of logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs, products and processes
  • Interprets and writes Requirements that provide traceability from high level customer designs to low level detailed design elements
  • Proficient in technical writing of technical design specifications, scope of works (SoWs) and requests for proposals (RFQs)
  • High degree of familiarity with CENELEC and AREMA standards
  • Prepares specifications for hardware and/or software components
  • Proficient with the use of development tools, CAD packages (Microstation, AutoCAD)
  • Selects an appropriate design approach
  • Maximizes the use of existing product designs
  • Possesses or has the ability to gain the Hitachi Competency Management System (CMS) Designer or Principles license
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: When required, perform the role of a Work Package Manager on projects, collaborating with a team of 1 to 5 Designers
  • Assist with project-related tasks, such as planning timelines and tracking budgets to ensure project goals are met
  • Keeping track of progress on all tasks assigned to the SID project team
  • Ensuring that all project tasks proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements
  • Generating accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and providing estimates for technologies that are new to the department

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical or Electronics Engineering degree
  • 7-10 years of related work experience
  • Proficient with the use of CAD tools (Microstation, AutoCad), Bills of Materials (SAP), Configuration Management, Hitachi Change Control Process (Clearquest), and Microsoft Office suite
  • Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization, and the customer
