Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) has an opportunity for a motivated, forward-thinking, and dedicated individual as a Grain Originator for our P&H division based in Virden, MB. The P&H Grain Division is a comprehensive grain and crop input network, operating across approximately 45 locations in the prairie provinces, Ontario and Quebec. Our strategically positioned facilities, including grain elevators, rail sidings, inland terminals, and specialized export terminals, ensure that we effectively match producer grain with the needs of both domestic and export end users. As a full-service agri-retailer, we provide farming communities with a full range of quality crop input products and agronomic solutions, encompassing crop protection products, certified seeds, nutrients, and custom applications. As the Grain Originator, the successful candidate will complement the high-volume contracts of the Merchandising department by developing and maintaining relationships with key grain producers in the area, actively acquiring market information, and sourcing grain directly from farms to bring in-house to meet both export and domestic customer needs.

Job Responsibility:

  • Identify and pursue business opportunities with producers
  • Meet with producers to collect grain samples and foster relationships
  • Serve as the primary contact for all matters related to grain purchasing, including negotiations, and delivery of grain in-house
  • Keep producers updated with relevant market information
  • Review and promote grain marketing programs
  • Provide the P&H merchandising team with first-hand grain market insights from producers

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated success in grain origination, particularly within the local region, and a deep understanding of the agricultural industry
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, analyze and effectively communicate grain markets, pricing trends, and marketing strategies
  • Valid driver’s license and be available to travel periodically
  • Strong proficiency in sales techniques and negotiation strategies, with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets and successfully closing deals
  • Exceptional customer service, relationship building and networking skills
  • Competence in using agricultural software systems and working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Application Suite, with high proficiency in Excel
