Job Description:

Provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. This may include performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. Review drawings and construction to assure compliance with plans and specifications. Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in a variety of sectors, including for example public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, and industrial.

Job Responsibility:

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects
  • Participate in pre-task planning
  • Report any safety issues or concerns to management
  • Provide and lead continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects
  • Monitor and promote quality standards and practices
  • Provide consistent quality standards on project and proposal delivery
  • Manage detailed phases of projects with moderate size and complexity
  • Independently perform a variety projects or selected segments of larger projects
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work
  • Work closely with senior-level project managers to gain additional project management experience for more complex and larger projects
  • Make design, engineering, and construction recommendations, adaptations and modifications
  • Prepare proposals and reports for small and large projects of varying complexity
  • Perform quality control review of proposals written by others
  • Evaluate complex laboratory and field data for inclusion in reports
  • Serve as a technical adviser to junior-level project team members
  • Interact directly with client and project team on developing scope of services, communicating project progress and findings and recommendations
  • Write and prepare routine and complex engineering reports detailing services provided, findings, and recommendations
  • Participate in marketing, sales and business development
  • Supervise graduate, field and project engineering staff
  • Work under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer
  • Begin documented mentoring and application process for Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer certification

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration

Master’s degree in engineering preferred

  • Prepare Programming and needs assessment activities including preparing and finalization of preliminary floor plans, architectural site plans, and preliminary elevations
  • Schedule and Run Design Owner Meetings, Design Subconsultant Coordination Meetings, Ensure Meeting Minutes are Prepared and Distributed, Assist with Management of Smartsheet for Scope and Decision Tracking.
  • Coordination of the building and site permitting process (working with subconsultants as necessary for completion of permitting). Research permitting and local/state/national codes. Engage utility providers to order necessary services (water, gas, electric, telecom, etc.) Work with Design Team to Properly Complete and Submit Permit Applications and Paperwork, Properly Submit/Re-submit Permit Packages, Ensure Construction Team is Properly Informed of Permitting Requirements and Timelines. Coordinate with team to obtain all permits.
  • Review project specific subconsultant (Geotech, Civil, ARCH, Structural, MEP, FP, etc.) Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Subconsultant (architects, engineers, geotech, etc.) management during design and construction. Including all necessary management of the design phase for the preparation of design development sets (50/90, 30/60/90, etc.), bid and permit sets, IFC sets, and as built drawings
  • Bid Phase Assistance – Work with Estimators to Provide RFI Responses in a Timely Fashion, Work with Design Subs to Ensure Complete and Accurate RFI Responses are Provided, identify any Permitting/Project Fees Required for Estimating Team, Review Drawing and Submittal Logs.
  • Document review during design development, including quality control/quality assurance, plan review, assisting with specifications and material selections, etc.
  • Metal Building Systems (PEMB) coordination and management during design including RFP support, drawing review, coordination of design features (foundation reactions, design details, anchor bolt layouts, etc.), etc.
  • Management of design administration during construction phase. Review and Release Submittals and RFI’s in a Timely Fashion. Coordinate with Construction Team in preparing close out documentation as builts and record drawings. Participate in and attend Construction Team Project Close Out Meeting.
