The Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Foundation team is responsible for maximizing philanthropic opportunities in each division across the system by engaging mid-level philanthropists throughout the country to transform health care and create healthier communities. The incumbent will focus on a sales and development-based approach to fundraising, which involves primarily calling and occasionally meeting with prospects and investors in the local community and broad division and generating results from those conversation. The incumbent is responsible for securing funding for a changing set of projects, such as needs within individual hospitals or organizations, local community initiatives and division efforts. The incumbent will own a portfolio of prospects and investors; travel within the division and generating fundraising results from those conversations.
Job Responsibility:
Owns a sales/development portfolio: Works with Foundation leadership to develop and implement strategies for fund development and a sales-based approach to fundraising
Identifies and prioritizes mid-level prospects and investors
Stewards all donors to ensure ongoing support and to maintain high levels of donor retention
Meets or exceeds annual fundraising goals
Owns relationship management and strategy for all prospects and investors in portfolio including prospect research and strategy

May include, visiting the prospects and “making asks” by applying a variety of selling and relationship techniques or activities including direct mail
Manages prospect follow-up activities
Understands complex fund development concepts and ensures compliance with relevant accountability standards, laws, regulations as well as ethical and professional conduct
Collaborates with sales/development team members (and other relevant stakeholders) on engagement of existing investors
Prepares and presents periodic status/progress reports
Works with Foundation leadership, sales/development team and support staff to maintain an accurate record of all gifts, grants and pledges on the Foundation’s automated recordkeeping system
Makes presentations to the Foundation Board of Trustees as needed
Keeps abreast of selling and fund development trends and “best practices”
Requirements:
1-3 years of experience in a team-selling environment required
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 1-3 years of related experience in business development, sales, fundraising or other similar fields preferred
Experience in planned giving instruments preferred
