A large public water and environmental services agency in Southern California is seeking a qualified Associate Environmental Specialist for a temporary assignment (up to 6 months). This position supports the Office of Safety, Security & Protective Services at a major water treatment facility in La Verne. This role operates in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment supporting districtwide Safety and Technical Training initiatives. The ideal candidate is professional, detail-oriented, collaborative, and possesses strong analytical and communication skills.
Job Responsibility:
Coordinate and/or perform wastewater sampling, packaging, chain of custody, and shipping in compliance with permit requirements
Review analytical laboratory data, prepare reports, and assess compliance with wastewater permit requirements
coordinate resampling as needed
Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with environmental program requirements
Participate in program audits and assessment teams
document findings and assist in corrective action development
Document and investigate environmental incidents
Research, analyze, and prepare documentation supporting environmental compliance and process improvements that minimize environmental impacts
Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations as required
Coordinate internal review of documents from external entities and compile comments
Develop checklists, protocols, procedures, and manuals
Perform additional Environmental Specialist-related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four (4) years of relevant experience
OR Two (2) years in an Assistant Environmental Specialist II classification with a similar public agency
OR Master’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience
Working knowledge of analytical protocols and scientific terminology used in water and hazardous material testing
Working knowledge of laboratory data analysis and interpretation for environmental investigations
Working knowledge of water treatment and distribution processes and operations
Working knowledge of environmental science theories, methods, and investigative techniques
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws, codes, and regulations
Working knowledge of technical research, analysis, and report preparation
Working knowledge of principles, concepts, and techniques of environmental planning at the state, regional, and local government level
Working knowledge of analytical testing protocols
Working knowledge of hazardous material testing terminology
Working knowledge of environmental compliance investigations
