Lead the development and implementation of a forward-thinking vision for library services and resources that aligns with the goals and initiatives of Advocate Health’s National Academic Model.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the development and implementation of a forward-thinking vision for library services and resources
Lead the planning, evaluation, and enhancement of a customer-oriented library system
Lead the integration of library services into clinical and educational programs
Oversee the management and operations of library facilities, resources, and services across the enterprise
Manage the library system’s budgets
Oversee the acquisition, organization, and maintenance of medical literature, databases, and electronic resources
Foster partnerships with healthcare professionals, educators, researchers and administrators
Ensure adherence to best practices in library management
Lead the planning and development of library system spaces across the enterprise
Requirements:
Master's degree in Library Science (MLS or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in library management, preferably within a healthcare or academic setting
Demonstrated leadership experience with a strong track record of strategic planning, staff development, and budget management
Knowledge and experience in developing and leading quality initiatives, improvements, and programs
Knowledge of emerging trends in library services, digital libraries, and information technology
A strong, verifiable advocacy for excellent service
Excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with diverse parties in complex situations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Generally exposed to a normal office environment
Operate all equipment essential to performing the job
Nice to have:
Additional master’s degree in a relevant field
Certification as a Medical Librarian (MLIS) or equivalent
Experience with large-scale digital library initiatives and electronic resource management systems
Experience with medical and/or health sciences libraries
Experience in an academic Learning Health System or similar integrated healthcare and research environment
Understanding of research support services, data management, and open access initiatives
Knowledge of healthcare policies, regulations, and practices
Experience in research support services and scholarly communication
