Join Realta Fusion, as an Electrical Engineer / Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll design and power the systems driving next-generation fusion technology. Where cutting-edge engineering meets the future of clean energy. Realta Fusion is a rapidly growing start-up developing compact magnetic mirror fusion energy systems to address the biggest challenge of our time – tackling global climate change while ensuring a sufficient energy supply for at least ten billion people on (and off) earth. We are building a team with diverse talents dedicated to making fusion energy a real solution to humanity’s most pressing problem. The Electrical Engineer / Senior Electrical Engineer will work with Realta’s engineering and scientific teams to deliver Realta’s technology development roadmap. The Electrical Engineer / Senior Electrical Engineer will support sponsored research activities on the Wisconsin High temperature superconducting Axisymmetric Mirror (WHAM) device at the University of Wisconsin and will be a critical member of the team designing and delivering Realta’s prototype fusion energy machine Anvil, and Realta’s fusion R&D facility, the Forge.
Job Responsibility:
Support designing, assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and support of operations of high voltage and power transmission systems for driving pulsed electrical loads for WHAM, Anvil, and the Forge
Support assessment of power quality studies when necessary
Contribute to designing, procurement, construction, and commissioning of high-power electrical systems to drive pulsed loads (< 5 s) at voltages up to 500 kV
Support development of electrical system architecture and work with designers to produce electrical schematics and installation drawings
Collaborate with operators of power systems through machine commissioning and, for development machines, through the lifetime of the machine
Demonstrate rigorous engineering practices including management of cost, schedule, and resource estimates as they pertain to your design, build, and delivery timelines
Contribute to modelling, simulating, analyzing, and validating power electronics circuits, magnetic components and control strategies for power supplies applied to highly inductive loads
Contribute to design, prototyping, and fabrication of PCBs at various voltage thresholds for various applications
Work cross-functionally with scientists, engineers, and technicians to refine system requirements and ensure seamless integration
Synthesize and present technical work internally and externally, communicate daily with project teams and leadership to support programmatic needs
Apply best electrical safety practices & compliance standards in design and implementation. Contribute to the establishment of company safety standards and lead implementation of these standards within R&D and Engineering team
Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that aligns with the company's mission, values, and sustainability goals, promoting innovation, collaboration, and employee engagement
Requirements:
MS (+ 2 years’ experience), BS (+ 5 years’ experience), or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Familiarity with EMI/EMC techniques and simulation tools (ANSYS Maxwell, Simplorer, HFSS), circuit simulation tools (SPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS or equivalent), PCB design software tools (ALTIUM, ORCAD, or KICAD), and Load Flow software tools (ETAP, PSS-E, or TARA)
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, public presentation) to collaborate effectively with colleagues, external partners, and stakeholders
