Job Description:

We are seeking a leader to join our New York office as a Divisional Director — a client champion, team builder, and technical innovator. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal part in shaping Atelier Ten’s presence in the U.S. market, driving sustainable, high-performance design outcomes, and mentoring the next generation of environmental talent. You’ll be responsible for bringing in new work and clients, building trusted relationships, and leading pursuits that align with our mission. Beyond business development, you’ll guide projects from concept to completion, ensure technical excellence, and contribute to the strategic management of the office. This is a role for someone who thrives on making things happen—winning work, inspiring teams, and influencing the future of sustainable design.

Job Responsibility:

  • Drive business development efforts by identifying opportunities, leading pursuits, and applying work winning strategies to bring in new projects and clients
  • Build strong client relationships as a trusted advisor, ensuring client satisfaction and long-term partnerships
  • Serve as director-in-charge on projects, guiding technical direction, profitably managing scope and fees, resolving issues, and ensuring top quality deliverables
  • Collaborate with other directors on office management, staffing, financial planning, and business strategy to ensure the financial success of the New York office
  • Mentor, train, and develop staff by identifying skill gaps, formulating training goals, and implementing professional development plans
  • Supervise technical and non-technical staff, ensuring alignment with project and office goals
  • Provide leadership, inspiration, and guidance to project managers and staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and technical excellence
  • Represent Atelier Ten and contribute to thought leadership by speaking at industry events, publishing articles, and participating in professional forums to elevate our profile in the design community
  • Support the growth of our practices and service offerings by contributing technical expertise, developing materials, guiding staff within practice areas, and sharing knowledge across our local offices and international network
  • Engage in recruiting and retention activities by helping bring new talent into the firm, supporting performance management, and fostering an environment where current staff feel valued and motivated

Requirements:

  • 15+ years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, environmental design, or a related field, with at least 7 years in a leadership and client-facing role
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture, engineering, building science, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in client engagement, business development, and project leadership within architecture, engineering, or environmental design
  • Deep technical knowledge in sustainability and building systems, with a track record of delivering high-performance solutions
  • Excellent communication skills ranging from presenting to clients, speaking at events, and writing proposals
  • A strong industry presence, demonstrated through connections within the design and construction community and thought leadership via speaking, publishing, or teaching
  • Ability to maintain a regular leadership presence in the New York office
  • Willingness to travel to support client work, business development initiatives, and participation in industry events

Nice to have:

  • Advanced credentials (e.g., PE, LEED AP, WELL AP) are a plus
  • Entrepreneurial, passionate about sustainable design, and has a knack for bringing in business
  • The kind of person people genuinely enjoy working with—someone who brings positive energy and builds trust
  • A self-starter
What we offer:
  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Generous paid time off
  • Emphasis on work life balance
  • 401k matching program
  • Highly engaged coworkers with a shared hunger for knowledge
  • Mutual respect and support from colleagues and leadership
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid Life and Disability insurance
  • Paid volunteer time
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Annual professional development funds
  • Freedom to contribute ideas and make a personal difference that is not always possible in a large corporate environment
