Job Description:

A Disability Support Worker at Allambi Care supports participants to go beyond just managing their disability, and assists them to move toward living connected and fulfilling lives. You’ll follow our Needs-Based Restorative Framework, giving person-centred support that respects participants’ voices, choices and values. Your role is all about creating safe, empowering environments where people can build independence, strengthen relationships, and thrive day to day.

Job Responsibility:

  • Daily personal support (help with showering, grooming, mobility, eating, medication prompting/supervision, continence care & hygiene)
  • Building living skills (meal planning/preparation, grocery shopping, money management/budgeting, cleaning, laundry, home maintenance, encouraging problem solving and independence, navigating systems/appointments, using public transport)
  • Community and social participation (support for activities/hobbies, encouraging social interaction, attending events/clubs/groups, accessing volunteering/employment/education)
  • Communication and supporting rights (supporting expression of needs/choices/goals, assisting with understanding rights and navigating services, supporting access to interpreters/communication aids)
  • Behaviour support (implementing positive behaviour support plans, assisting with emotional regulation/understanding triggers, using proactive and non-restrictive strategies for safety/wellbeing)

Requirements:

  • Support individual choice and control and respect participant’s goals and values
  • See participants as individuals and focus on strength and preferences
  • Listen without judgment, adapt to different communication styles and make space for participants to express themselves
  • Follow through on commitments, maintain boundaries, and ask for help when needed
  • Approach support with care, respect, and consent
  • Speak up if something doesn’t feel right and follow safety procedures
  • Welcome feedback, actively engage in training, and reflect on their practice to keep improving
