Our client is looking to hire a Risk Operations Director who is a bold, forward-thinking leader to help them shape the future of mortgage risk. As Director, Risk Operations, you’ll report to the VP, Insurance Risk and take the helm of their Regional Risk Managers and Credit Policy function. This is a career-defining opportunity to influence national policy, shape credit risk strategy, and bring change to a collaborative, high-performing team.

Job Responsibility:

  • Direct oversight of regional risk teams and the credit policy function
  • Own and evolve the organization’s Residential Mortgage Insurance Underwriting Plan
  • Analyze housing market and portfolio trends to inform policy changes and business decisions
  • Partner with modeling teams, technology, and third-party vendors to enhance underwriting and risk tools
  • Lead business validation and ensure risk alignment on strategic modeling initiatives
  • Provide risk leadership on key projects and portfolio insurance assessments
  • Champion a culture of excellence, accountability, and collaboration across teams

Requirements:

  • 10+ years in credit risk management, ideally within mortgage lending or a financial institution
  • Proven experience with credit policy interpretation, development, and implementation
  • Strong understanding of mortgage underwriting, regulatory guidelines (e.g., OSFI B-21, PRMHIA), and risk governance
  • Exceptional analytical skills and comfort with data-driven decision-making
  • Skilled in leading and motivating cross-functional teams and managing third-party relationships
  • Familiarity with tools for collateral assessment, modeling, and risk automation is an asset
  • Experienced in leading national teams and influencing at the executive level
  • Able to balance strategic oversight with hands-on problem solving
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
