The Cleaner/Janitor performs cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure that commercial spaces are sanitized, organized, and presentable. This role requires attention to detail, a commitment to health and safety, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. This position is deemed safety sensitive due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee’s co-workers, and/or the public at large.
Job Responsibility:
Perform all cleaning duties for facilities using provided ServiceMaster products, tools, and procedures
Perform general cleaning tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing all designated areas such as offices, restrooms, hallways, and break rooms
Empty and sanitize trash receptacles and dispose of waste following facility protocols
Replenish supplies such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper in restrooms and common areas
Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
Use appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment, including PPE, following all safety and usage guidelines as per OSHA standards
Handle and dispose of biohazard materials safely in designated areas when required
Opens and locks facilities, enables and disables security system as required
Report any maintenance issues, damages, or supply needs to the Location Supervisor promptly
To perform any other duties within the scope of the position to meet the needs of the business
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
1-2 years’ experience in custodial/janitorial field
Prior experience working in a professional janitorial company, hotel, hospital, school, etc., preferred
Must have a current, valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Drive personal vehicles to assigned building and perform required janitorial tasks
Knowledge of safe handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals
Ability to read and understand labels, SDS (Safety Data Sheets), and safety guidelines
Participate in regular safety training sessions and stay informed of any updates to protocols or standards
High level of personal integrity and ethics
Attention to detail and accuracy
Effective self-management practices and ability to manage multiple tasks throughout the day
Ability to establish relationships with clients, vendors, and peers
Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to communicate with team members and customers
