Job Description:

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as a Corrections Locksmith to work at Graham Correctional Center. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, task oriented, has excellent organizational skills and shows great attention to detail. This position performs skilled locksmith work in maintenance and repair of locks, mechanically, electrically, and hydraulically operated in the facility.

Job Responsibility:

  • Performs skilled locksmith work in the maintenance and repair of locks, mechanically, electrically and hydraulically operated
  • Works in locksmith's shop
  • Keeps all required tools and equipment in operating condition
  • Supervises individuals in custody who perform manual labor related to the locksmith operation
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Requirements:

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a skilled locksmith
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen
  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training in within six (6) months of employment
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer

Nice to have:

  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience maintaining and repairing mechanically, electrically, and hydraulically operated locks
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience repairing damaged locks
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience adjusting doors and door closure assemblies
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience making up keys and key rings
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience installing and maintaining room and lock number tag system
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience completing work orders and deficiency reports of work completed
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience maintaining key boxes such as armory key keyboard and emergency key boxes
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience operating a locksmith shop including maintaining accurate inventory of tools and maintaining equipment in good working order
