Job Description:

This attorney, working in the Legal Affairs Department, will advise on all aspects of international employment law, ensuring compliance with labor regulations across multiple jurisdictions, and supporting HR and management in employment-related matters. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of international labor laws, employee relations, and cross-border employment issues. The attorney will also provide support for US employment law issues.

Job Responsibility:

  • Advise HR and business clients on international employment laws and disciplinary matters across multiple jurisdictions
  • Develop streamlined international employment law policies, practices, and strategies to minimize legal risks
  • Draft and review employment agreements for international hires, independent contractors, and consultants
  • Engage with outside counsel to manage international employment law litigation and union/works council issues
  • Support compliance with visa, immigration, and work authorization requirements outside the US
  • Provide legal support in international employment aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructurings
  • Advise on international employee transitions, retention strategies, and integration post-acquisition
  • Deliver training to HR and business units regarding employment laws
  • Assist in internal investigations regarding employee misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and other workplace issues
  • Oversee US employment litigation with assistance from outside counsel, and respond to US EEO charges with assistance from internal team members
  • Advise and counsel HR and business units regarding US employment laws, including disciplinary issues involving Retail employees and wage/hour issues

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience as an employment attorney, with relevant in-house and/or top law firm experience
  • 2+ years of experience handling international employment law issues, with experience in UK or India issues preferred
  • Ability to work independently and effectively despite ambiguity and rapid change
  • Excellent writing skills, with a focus on providing practical advice
  • Awesome oral communication skills, with a focus on clearly and simply conveying complex employment law concepts, risks, and options to HR and other internal clients
  • Strong judgement that allows you to properly weigh what’s best for our customers and our business, what’s best for our employees, and potential legal risks
  • Strong project management skills
  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate with other legal and business professionals in a complex organization with a focus on delivering results efficiently
  • A keen business sense with strong judgment, negotiation, drafting, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines, and balance multiple, and sometimes competing, priorities
  • Must be licensed, in good standing, to practice law in the US
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
