Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead and oversee the accounting and financial operations within our organization. Based in Burbank, California, this role requires a strong leader who can manage and mentor a team while ensuring compliance with financial regulations and policies. The ideal candidate will excel at analyzing business performance, driving process improvements, and collaborating across departments to achieve organizational goals.

Job Responsibility:

Oversee and manage the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely completion of end-of-period processes and performance analyses
Develop and enforce risk management procedures while continuously updating them to align with business needs
Build and mentor talent within the accounting team, fostering growth and readiness for future leadership roles
Ensure consistency in financial policies and procedures across the department to support overall company objectives
Collaborate with departmental leaders to guide financial activities and interpret the implications of financial outcomes
Work closely with external partners, including auditors, tax experts, and financial institutions, to address auditing and taxation matters
Lead documentation efforts for all financial records and prepare detailed reports on revenue processes and accounting matters
Conduct financial analyses, prepare annual budgets, and oversee quarterly and annual audits to improve overall financial performance
Implement and oversee systems improvements within the finance department, ensuring compliance with state tax requirements and accepted accounting principles
Drive projects related to the implementation of new financial tools and systems, ensuring alignment with organizational goals

Requirements:

Extensive experience in financial management and accounting leadership roles
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
Strong knowledge of retail wholesale, inventory reconciliation, and direct-to-consumer (DTC) operations
Expertise in sales tax, cost of goods sold (COGS), and budgeting processes
Proven ability to mentor and develop accounting personnel
Experience with financial reporting and compliance with state tax regulations
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across departments and with external partners
Demonstrated ability to recommend and implement process improvements that enhance financial performance
