As Controller you will report directly to the Divisional Controller, Aggregates & Construction and take ownership of all accounting and financial reporting activities within our Construction group. This is a high-visibility role where your insights will directly support senior leadership, executives, and operational teams as they build and maintain critical infrastructure across Ontario. This role is based out of our Niagara Falls office, with monthly travel to our Hanover office.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare, review, and analyze monthly and quarterly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and highlighting key risks, trends, and areas of concern for senior management
Oversee the maintenance and integrity of general and subsidiary ledgers
Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports with clear variance analysis to support strategic decision-making
Ensure the accuracy of construction data processing and results within the ERP system
Coordinate annual budgets, forecasting, and planning processes to help leadership assess future financial performance
Prepare year-end working paper files and supporting documentation for audited financial statements
Complete corporate tax returns and regulatory filings, including T5 and T5018 slips and returns
Prepare and submit the MTO Annual Contractor Rating application through the Ministry’s Registry, Appraisal and Qualification System
Participate in operational, financial review, and senior leadership meetings—providing both financial insight and practical guidance
Implement, document, and maintain strong financial controls to protect the integrity of financial reporting systems
Lead, mentor, and manage direct reports to ensure high-quality, timely work
Requirements:
University degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field
CPA designation (required)
7–10 years of progressive accounting experience
Valid Ontario G Driver’s Licence in good standing
Experience working in a multi-location operation
Strong ERP experience for data management and reporting
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, conditional formatting, charts, sorting, and filtering
Proven experience supervising and developing a team
Nice to have:
Construction or project-based accounting experience
Oracle experience
