Job Description:

The Control Systems Engineer III will lead the design and execution of moderately complex control systems. This includes defining requirements, interfacing directly with clients, and guiding junior engineers.

Job Responsibility:

  • Architect, design/develop and implement custom controls and vision systems solutions
  • Program, network, commission, analyze, diagnose, and debug control systems with a wide variety of hardware: PLCs, microprocessors, motion controllers, HMIs, robots, servo drives, VFDs, servos, steppers, and/or inductions motors, vision systems, and all types of sensors
  • Specify control components and support creation of the BOM
  • Design control systems to the UL508A, UL61010, and NFPA 79 regularity standards
  • Support creation of electrical wiring and cable diagrams
  • Support the Lab during the electrical enclosure builds
  • Assist in writing and reviewing system specification documents
  • Support the creation of operations manuals
  • Test/Validation, perform FAT, SAT, and onsite training
  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering required
  • Minimum of 7+ years experience integrating complex mechanical-electrical systems
  • Programming PLCs, safety PLCs, motion controllers, and HMIs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Yaskawa, Kollmorgen, Beckhoff, IFM, etc.)
  • Sizing/selecting circuit protectors, wiring, cables, sensors, controllers, system I/O, drives and motors, etc.
  • Integrating and programming vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, iRVision, etc.), robots (ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa, Omron, etc.), and other devices for custom-designed equipment or a work cell
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, AutoCAD Electric, EPlan)
  • Great understanding of closed loop control, instrumentation, controls systems, enclosure design, safety codes and regulations (UL 508A, NFPA79, UL61010, etc.)
  • Demonstrated track record of working as part of a cross-functional team to deliver results with exceptional quality, in addition to being on time, on budget and meeting the needs of the customer
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group
  • Professional demeanor interfacing with the client and the team members

  • Engineering work includes physical and virtual surveys of communications pathways, both inside and outside plant, communication rooms, server farms, telecommunications hubs, uninterrupted power supplies, and electrical connections for BOS information technology (IT) servicing assets, and main communications distribution points on Schriever. Mission Systems require engineering support for any connection that leaves a facility, connects to DISA, or 21 CS (OL-S) owned communications connection/distribution hub owned and controlled by the 21 CS (OL-S)
  • Testing is only required to determine if 21 CS (OL-S) communications transport or systems equipment is functional and in good use or if it should be upgraded, replaced, or removed. All testing equipment, process, and procedures for testing will be Government furnished. Engineering support shall provide new techniques, practices, procedures, including suggestions for enhanced testing equipment to the 21 CS (OL-S)
  • Documentation includes current and future communications systems capturing all physical topologies and architecture within either or both the Phoenix Database and Cyberspace Infrastructure Planning System (CIPS) Visualization Component (CVC). The Phoenix Database is a Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) product. The Phoenix Database and CVC tool are repositories of Communications and Information System and Installation Records (CSIRs) used as a communications planning tool. Engineers will be required to obtain access to both systems via Phoenix request Memorandum and Department of Defense DoD Form 2875, System Authorization Access Request (SAAR) that will be provided by the Government
  • Provides problem analysis, technical assessments and identify potential operational impacts to the 21 CS (OL-S) Government personnel
  • Ensures that all designed and developed technical solutions integrate with local, Air Force and DoD architectures
