Job Responsibility:
Accurately coding for hospital inpatient and observation encounters in accordance with official coding guidelines, including ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT
Assigns the appropriate APR- and MS-DRGs to the inpatient discharge
Performs anesthesia professional coding on inpatient and observation surgical and diagnostic procedures
Assigns appropriate charging codes for Injections and Infusions (I&I) and Hydration therapies for the emergency room visits that become inpatients and observation encounters
Partners with the Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS) to determine CDI and/or coding queries as indicated
Authors both CDI and coding queries
Performs APR-DRG reconciliation with the CDIS
Requirements:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. (required)
Equivalent Experience Full-time coding work related experience in an acute care inpatient hospital setting. (required)
CCS - Certified Coding Specialist - AHIMA - American Health Information Management Association (required)
Minimum one (1) year ICD-10 CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding classification systems, encoder products, MS-DRG and APR-DRG systems/groupers, and AHA Coding Guidelines. (required)
Well-versed in both hospital inpatient coding and DRG assignment
Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding conventions and guidelines
Familiarity with coding systems, billing practices, and reimbursement models
Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and coding software
