We’re seeking an experienced Category Adviser to join our Coal Procurement Partnering team, supporting some of Aurizon’s most commercially significant rollingstock categories. This role will work across Tier 1 suppliers, complex contracts and multi‑vendor environments critical to keeping our coal network operating reliably. As a Category Adviser, you will partner closely with Category Leads and operational stakeholders to deliver strategic procurement, sourcing and contract management outcomes. Your portfolio will span high‑value, technically complex categories, requiring strong commercial judgement, disciplined contract management and confident supplier engagement.
Job Responsibility:
Support the development and execution of category and sourcing strategies across rollingstock and major programs
Lead and support medium to high‑complexity sourcing activities, including tenders, negotiations and commercial evaluations
Provide contract management oversight across a portfolio of Tier 1 suppliers, including performance management, variations, claims and dispute resolution
Work across multiple suppliers and contracts concurrently, balancing competing priorities and operational demands
Partner with internal stakeholders (engineering, maintenance, operations) to manage commercial risk and value delivery
Track, validate and report commercial benefits and savings outcomes
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, commercial governance frameworks and internal procurement policies
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across category management and supplier engagement practices
Requirements:
Substantial experience in commercial, procurement or category management roles, preferably within a large, regulated or ASX‑listed organisation
Demonstrated experience managing complex contracts and supplier relationships, including Tier 1 or strategic suppliers
Strong negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management skills
The ability to manage multiple vendors and contracts simultaneously while maintaining commercial discipline
Well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving capability, with experience tracking benefits and performance
Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain or a related field (preferred)
Professional accreditation (e.g. CIPS, CA, CPA or similar) is desirable
High proficiency in SAP (purchasing) and Microsoft Office tools
