Job Description:

The Carpenter / Millworker plays a key role in the fabrication and assembly of scenic, architectural, and branded elements across a range of ASTOUND projects—including exhibits, immersive activations, and permanent installations. This hands-on role requires precision, craftsmanship, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines to deliver exceptional work that meets ASTOUND’s creative and technical standards.

Job Responsibility:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, and cut lists specific to custom fabrication projects
  • Fabricate millwork components, scenic flats, cabinetry, kiosks, platforms, and other structures using wood, MDF, laminates, and composite materials
  • Apply laminate, veneer, and edge banding with high attention to seam quality and finish
  • Construct modular and knock-down components designed for transport, repeated use, and on-site installation
  • Operate standard woodworking tools and machinery including table saws, routers, sanders, jointers, planers, and nail guns
  • Collaborate with CNC, Metal, LED, Paint and Graphics teams to integrate systems and finish components for fully built-out environments
  • Participate in on-site installations as needed—assembling structures to spec and supporting field teams in executing project installs
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, reporting any tool malfunctions, material issues, or build challenges to supervisors
  • Follow direction from the Foreman and Production Management to ensure quality, timelines, and project requirements are met
  • Support prototyping and development of new fabrication methods to support architectural or experiential builds

Requirements:

  • 3–5 years of experience in millwork, scenic carpentry, or related custom fabrication fields
  • Proficient with woodworking tools, materials, and joinery techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to fabricate from technical drawings with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience working with laminates, hardwoods, composite materials, and specialty finishes
  • Able to lift 50 lbs., stand for long periods, and perform physical work in a shop or field setting
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Nice to have:

  • Experience in exhibit fabrication, scenic environments, or immersive brand activations
  • Familiarity with modular hardware systems used in trade shows and touring environments
