Job Description:

We are looking for a skilled Cable Technician to join our team in Ames, Iowa. This is a Contract-to-Permanent position offering an excellent opportunity to work in a high-tech engineering environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial cabling projects, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues.

Job Responsibility:

  • Install, route, and secure Cat 5 and Cat 6 cables in commercial construction and renovation projects
  • adhere to industry standards such as ANSI/TIA, BICSI, or NEC while performing installations
  • perform conduit bending, cable testing using digital multi-meters, and troubleshoot networking issues
  • assemble and organize server racks, patch panels, and network closets
  • work with fiber optics, including terminations using SC and LC connectors and splicing techniques
  • read and interpret schematic and line diagrams to ensure accurate installations
  • conduct rack and stack operations, ensuring proper equipment setup and configuration
  • maintain and troubleshoot broadband, networking, and other cabling systems efficiently

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a commercial cabling environment
  • proficiency in running and terminating Cat 5 and Cat 6 cables
  • familiarity with fiber optic terminations and splicing techniques
  • ability to read and understand schematic and line diagrams
  • experience with tools such as digital multi-meters and cable testers
  • valid driver’s license is required
  • strong understanding of networking principles and troubleshooting
  • knowledge of industry standards such as ANSI/TIA, BICSI, or NEC is highly preferred
