The Automation Mechanical Design Supervisor leads and manages our team of design engineers to deliver high-performance, custom-built mechanical solutions from concept to commissioning. The successful candidate will be a strong mechanical designer, experienced in designing various automated equipment solutions, special machines, and secondary equipment.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and mentor a team of mechanical designers, providing technical guidance, and conducting performance reviews
Initialize the kickoff of projects with team members
Collaborate with team members to develop overall project concepts/layouts
Assure that design output aligns and conforms to quoted content and customer requirements
Review designs in progress, approve final designs, BOMs, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy, manufacturability, and safety compliance
Allocate engineering resources across multiple projects, manage timelines and budgets, and track project milestones
Lead the development of innovative mechanical concepts for custom automation solutions while driving continuous improvement
Coordinate with electrical, controls, and assembly teams to ensure seamless system integration
Establish and maintain best practices for CAD, engineering principles, and standards
Participate in the design review and approval process with customers
Trouble-shoot issues and problem solve as required

Requirements:
Expert level proficiency in SolidWorks with 10 years direct design experience
Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), simulation, and stress testing
3+ years in a supervisory and/or mentoring role
Experience with PDM and ERP systems
Knowledge of automotive component processes such as sonic welding, bonding, joining, punching, forming, assembly, and verification methods
O.E.M. and Major Tier 1 Customer experience
Experience with robotics, vision systems, and other complex turn-key purchased mechanisms and sub-systems
Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems required
Expertise in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
General knowledge of quality systems and lean manufacturing methods
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Occasional travel to Select Tool subsidiaries or Customer locations including U.S.A. and Mexico
Valid Passport and Driver’s License required
Post-secondary diploma/degree required
