Job Description:

The University of Liverpool, India, Bengaluru seeks a qualified Lecturer in Game Design with sufficiently wide expertise to cover technical aspects (programming, game engines) as well as the visual, spatial, and sonic aspects of the discipline (Game Art, UX/UI, composition of music for games, sound recording). The role is full-time and includes teaching, administration and scholarship. The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching across undergraduate and future postgraduate Game Design programmes at the University of Liverpool’s India Campus. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and with industry, contributing to the University's research vision.

Job Responsibility:

  • To contribute to the design, development, delivery, assessment, and administration of undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered
  • To participate actively in the development and delivery of the School’s strategic and operational objectives
  • To undertake academic and administrative duties as assigned by your academic line manager
  • To contribute to ongoing curriculum enhancement, ensuring alignment with international academic standards, research advancements, and evolving industry needs
  • To engage with innovative, inclusive, and modern pedagogical approaches, implementing best practices in university teaching and learning
  • To supervise and support students directly, identifying learning needs, defining learning objectives, and maintaining a high standard of academic guidance and mentorship
  • To provide academic supervision for undergraduate dissertations
  • Lecturing, seminar teaching, workshop delivery and assessment relevant to Game Design in technical, artistic and creative contexts
  • Develop collaborative research links with our academic staff in our home campus in Liverpool
  • To prepare and submit manuscripts for publications in leading international conferences and journals
  • Develop engagement with external partners
  • Take responsibility for the supervision and training of postgraduate research students
  • Undertaking relevant scholarship duties in Game Design
  • In future years, supervision of independent and collaborative projects in Game Design
  • Providing guidance to individual students as an Academic Advisor
  • Working collegially across the team to provide an excellent student experience

Requirements:

  • Experience of delivering teaching and assessment as relevant to games and/or other audiovisual media (e.g. film) in a Higher Education context or equivalent
  • Experience working and/or teaching about games industry
  • Experience coding in languages relevant to teaching in Game Design and Computer Science
  • PhD in a subject related to the post
  • Undergraduate degree in Game Design, Game Art, Game Development, Computer Science, or another subject relevant to the post
  • A Master’s degree in a subject relevant to the post (or relevant equivalent qualifications or professional experience)
  • The possession of a formal teaching qualification (e.g. AFHEA, FHEA, PGCE) or a willingness to complete one as part of the post
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to develop high quality research
  • Versatility to contribute to a wide range of Game Design-related modules across the programme, which should include capability in technical aspects (e.g. programming, game engines) as well as the visual, spatial, and sonic aspects of the discipline (e.g. Game Art, UX/UI, 3D modelling, composition of music for games, sound recording)
  • High level of skill in software found in the undergraduate curriculum (e.g. Unreal, Unity) as well as 3D modelling software (e.g. Blender, Maya)
  • Knowledge of theories and concepts related to games and audiovisual media, particularly with respect to visual and spatial aspects
  • Sufficient level of skill to teach at undergraduate level across Computer Science and Game Design
  • Skills applicable to Virtual Learning Environments (e.g. Canvas or equivalent) to support student learning
  • Proficiency in aspects of audio technology and creative practice, such as Digital Audio Workstations (e.g. Logic Pro, Ableton)
  • Skills in computer-based music composition
  • Knowledge of the gaming industry

  • Track record of teaching and assessment at postgraduate level
  • Track record of design of modules or programmes at undergraduate level
  • Track record of publications or other forms of scholarship
