The Institute for Research in the Social Sciences Assistant Director of Team Science Initiatives is a full-time, twelve-month administrative professional management position that reports to the Associate Director of Research at IRISS in the College of Liberal Arts. The Assistant Director of Team Science Initiatives will provide leadership, direction, and support for various research projects occurring in the innovative Team Science research initiatives sphere. The Assistant Director will supervise a team of project managers and student researchers in developing, delivering and evaluating team science interventions, including facilitated experiences, educational trainings, tools, and resources, that are designed to enhance the productivity of cross-disciplinary research teams to elevate team functioning and research success. This role will fulfill and lead all of the pillars of Team Science, including training to build individual and team competencies; facilitation of large and complex teams to improve their performance, applying the science of collaborative decision-making and being an integration specialist; conducting assessments using logic model and theory of change development, as well as Social Network Analysis; and consultation to provide specific and targeted interventions to address team needs. This position will implement scopes of work, establish funding, provide program/project planning, build and provide presentations to deliver results to clients, budgeting, and administration, and develop related operational policies and procedures.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct research and complete project-based assignments to sustain the needs and activities of IRISS in its goal of conducting transformational and collaborative team science
Develop and support research proposals, interface with clients, project management, and direct consultation, assessment, facilitation and teaching for team science projects
Develop team science workshops, build collaborative capacity for teams, facilitate team science workshops and activities, and promote team science through connections with potential clients and advisory board members
While focused on Team Science, this position may also contribute to non-Team Science project-based work requiring facilitation, training, and/or social science research activities
Promote institute growth and work with project managers, coordinators and directors to conduct social science research
Lead, direct and supervise the work of staff to support completion of projects in a timely manner
Provide strategic guidance in budgets, programming and management as part of the leadership team for the Institute
Manage programmatic aspects of grants and projects in accordance with the procedures, guidelines, and expectations required
Ensure a culture of excellence through continuous improvement, creativity, and transformative innovation in the Institute’s operations and programs
Requirements:
Professional degree, PhD (or equivalent) with 7+ years’ experience or MA with 10+ years’ experience, in social sciences or related field from an accredited university
Minimum of 7 years of experience in the team science field, including evidence of contributions to the science of team science field, robust facilitation skills and experience creating team science interventions
Minimum of 4 years of experience managing and supervising and demonstrated experience and enthusiasm in supervising professional staff, and student researchers
Demonstrated mastery of multiple social science research methods, including qualitative, quantitative, and network methods and software
Extensive experience working collaboratively with research teams of varying sizes
Knowledge of regulatory and compliance policies and procedures related to social science and human-subjects oriented research
Strong organizational, project management, and collaboration skills as demonstrated by work experience
Demonstrated ability to write reports for both academic and non-academic audiences
Nice to have:
Demonstrated knowledge of university policies, administration, and operations
Experience with strategic planning, long-range project coordination, and analytical problem solving
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Experience working closely and independently with administrators of institutions and/or leaders of science programs, organizations, or initiatives on a local, national, and/or international scale
Experience using design thinking and/or human-centered design methods in creating team science interventions
Proficiency in virtual collaboration tools (eg, Miro, Ideaboardz)
Outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills including written and verbal presentation abilities
Proficiency in developing computational tools (e.g. data dashboards, R Shiny apps) to meet client needs
