Job Description:

M. R. Tanner Construction is seeking a skilled and reliable Asphalt Raker / Laborer to join our paving crew. This position plays a key role in achieving high-quality asphalt placement by raking, leveling, and smoothing materials during road and pavement construction. The ideal candidate is hardworking, detail-oriented, and able to work safely in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Spread and rake hot asphalt to achieve proper grade, depth, and smooth finish
  • Assist the paving machine operator by maintaining consistent material flow
  • Level asphalt around curbs, manholes, and structures
  • Ensure proper slopes, transitions, and surface contours
  • Identify and correct imperfections in the asphalt mat
  • Perform general labor tasks including shoveling, sweeping, and site cleanup
  • Maintain tools such as rakes, lutes, and shovels
  • Follow all company and job-site safety procedures
  • Support the paving crew with additional tasks as needed

Requirements:

  • Experience in asphalt paving or construction labor preferred
  • Ability to work outdoor construction sites with exposure to heat, noise, and heavy equipment
  • Physical ability to lift 50–80 lbs and perform repetitive movements
  • Strong attention to detail and work quality
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation preferred
