Job Description:

We are looking to recruit a Class 1 Driver who is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of stock to Wickes stores, ensuring compliance with transport regulations and company policies while maintaining high standards of professionalism and customer service. The ideal candidate will be a highly independent worker who can also communicate effectively with the transport team. Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is essential, with requirements including early starts and occasional weekend work. This physically demanding role involves tasks such as securing loads and conducting thorough vehicle checks. All successful applicants will complete a full training and induction program to ensure adherence to Wickes’ stringent safety and customer service standards. This is an AM driver role with the start times varying between 4-6am. The role will be 45 hours per week.

Job Responsibility:

  • Safe & Timely Deliveries – Deliver stock efficiently and professionally to Wickes stores, ensuring all goods arrive in perfect condition
  • Compliance & Legal Standards – Adhere to all transport regulations, including EU driving rules and Working Time Directive (WTD) legislation
  • Vehicle Inspections – Conduct pre-trip and post-trip checks, reporting any defects or maintenance issues
  • Load Security – Ensure all loads are correctly secured to meet safety and legal requirements
  • Health & Safety – Follow all Wickes policies, road safety procedures, and report any hazards or incidents
  • Professional Representation – Act as an ambassador for Wickes, maintaining excellent customer service when interacting with store teams
  • Route & Schedule Management – Follow pre-planned routes, adjusting where necessary to maintain efficiency
  • Accurate Documentation – Complete all delivery paperwork, tachograph records, and incident reports as required

Requirements:

  • HGV Class 1 (C+E) Licence
  • Valid Driver CPC
  • Digital Tachograph Card
  • Basic English and Maths
  • Previous experience as a Class 1 driver in store deliveries or distribution
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with store teams and colleagues
  • Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules
  • Attention to detail in vehicle checks and compliance
