Job Description:

This role is offered as part of a Level 4 Learning & Skills Mentor Apprenticeship, delivered in partnership with Impact Futures. An apprenticeship lets you learn while you work, helping you gain a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll spend time both in the studio, getting hands-on experience, and learning the skills you need. Each week, you’ll have set time just for training and study, so you can complete your qualification successfully. The Level 4 qualification is the same level as a Diploma or HNC/first year of a BSC, giving you a solid foundation to start a career in art education, coaching, mentoring, or other creative roles. At our art-K Oxford branch, the Art Tutor Assistant (Apprenticeship Level 4) will support the delivery of our creative art programme, help maintain the studio, and learn to guide and mentor students as they explore their creativity.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver engaging art sessions in a fun, club environment with high teacher-student ratios
  • Support students’ artistic development through skill-based lessons and creative exploration
  • Continuously evaluate student progress, identifying strengths and areas for improvement
  • Actively communicate with parents about student progress and development
  • Prepare for classes by laying out materials, sharpening pencils, washing brushes, and cutting templates
  • Maintain the studio environment, including window displays, painting prep, and cleaning to a high standard
  • Support studio operations with administrative tasks such as responding to emails, phone calls, customer reviews, and promotional activities
  • Follow health and safety and child safeguarding policies to ensure a safe studio environment
  • Provide ad hoc support at your normal studio and/or other clubs during staff absences, training, or holidays (extra hours and travel costs paid)
  • Lead holiday workshops, parties, and term-time classes at your studio or other locations as needed

Requirements:

  • Level 2 in Maths & English
  • Level 2 in Art
  • Level 3 in Art is preferable but not required
  • Passionate about art and education, with a genuine desire to help children develop creatively
  • Positive, proactive, and enthusiastic, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Enjoys working collaboratively in a team environment
  • Familiarity with computers for day-to-day admin tasks is essential
  • Reliable, organised, and eager to learn
  • Practical artistic skills across a range of media and techniques including acrylics, watercolour, oil pastels, pastels, oils, inks, clay, papier-mâché, and paper sculpture
  • Ability and willingness to learn art projects and behavioural techniques quickly

Nice to have:

Level 3 in Art

What we offer:

  • Join a supportive team of like-minded artists and educators
  • Receive full training in art-K’s teaching methods and ongoing support from your studio team and Impact Futures throughout your apprenticeship
