Job Description:

A leading food manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Supervisor for a temp-to-hire opportunity. This role will oversee a team of four AP clerks and ensure the accurate and timely processing of all accounts payable functions. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with a hands-on approach and a deep understanding of AP processes in a high-volume environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of Accounts Payable clerks, providing guidance and training as needed
  • Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards
  • Review and approve invoices, payment runs, and reconciliations for accuracy and timeliness
  • Monitor vendor accounts, resolve escalated inquiries, and maintain positive vendor relationships
  • Ensure adherence to deadlines for payments to maximize discounts and avoid late fees
  • Prepare and analyze AP reports for management, identifying trends and recommending process improvements
  • Collaborate with purchasing and operations teams to resolve discrepancies and streamline workflows
  • Assist with audits and special projects as required
  • Implement best practices and support continuous improvement initiatives within the AP department

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of accounts payable experience
  • at least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • strong leadership and team management skills
  • proficiency in AP systems and Microsoft Excel
  • ERP experience preferred
  • excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • knowledge of food manufacturing or similar high-volume industry is a plus
  • associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred

  • Sets up / maintains supplier / vendor data and manages the process for identifying, submitting and approving new suppliers / vendors
  • Coordinates match exceptions and ensures their resolution in a timely manner through ongoing collaboration with Supply Chain, AP Supervisor and AP staff
  • Monitors the voucher approval workflow and addresses / escalates unapproved vouchers and resolves EDI errors in a timely manner
  • Identifies accounts payable processing issues and works to improve work flow through actual assistance in processing accounts payable requisitions, matching invoices and providing other supporting documents to the staff
  • Analyses payments, expenses, discounts, invoice processing queues and other ad hoc reports required by department management, Controller or Financial Reporting Department
  • Recommends process improvements to management and implements approved improvements of critical business processes. Drives continuous process improvement within the AP department and Procure-to-Pay functions
