Advanced Research Engineer – Informatics. Are you a Systems Engineer with a passion for infrastructure and innovation? Join the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) as an Advanced Research Engineer in our Informatics team and help shape the future of digital engineering. As an Advanced Research Engineer, you’ll lead and deliver cutting-edge projects in the Informatics research area. You’ll work at the intersection of IT and OT, deploying secure infrastructure, managing Linux-based systems, and implementing advanced monitoring solutions.
Job Responsibility:
Administer and maintain Linux-based systems and virtual environments
Design and manage secure infrastructure for cybersecurity monitoring
Develop and integrate systems using Python or similar languages
Support digital engineering projects with creative problem solving and system design
Contribute to research proposals and larger bid preparations
Occasionally manage projects over £50k and support project planning and risk reviews
Promote MTC capabilities through publications and presentations
Engage with customers to support business development
Requirements:
Strong Linux system administration experience
Virtualization and hypervisor lifecycle management
Programming proficiency (Python or similar)
Excellent report writing and presentation skills
Nice to have:
Cybersecurity principles and secure environment design
IT/OT networking knowledge
Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, containerization, and web development
Understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies
